Recaps of Glam Rock Creations [December 2010]

**In November, I was busy trying to get everything taken care of as far as my car accident (the death of my '91 Jeep Cherokee I've only had for 3 weeks) I've gotten into on the 6th and searching for a new car, at the same time looking for employment, and trying to focus on school.

I did eventually get a '94 Jeep Cherokee on the 18th and have been very busy with other things. A week after getting her, I picked up 3 full bags of vintage fabric from dear old Bayou City Art Festival volunteer buddy Douglas Brookover, then 3 bags of old unwanted clothes from HCC friend Fida Moukaddam. I've been sorting everything out, what I wanted to keep and wanted to give away because I found NO use for it, and have been preparing for end of my participation in school organizations and finals. Some of my studies were a bit hard to catch up on, but I luckily got around and caught up.

I looked at Adalia after getting all those bags and felt so sorry for her because I wasn't using her since my Alice in Wonderland costume... November was wayyyy too hectic for me, but I got rid of the biggest worry in December (court for the accident because I had to appear for an "unsafe turn", even though I didn't see the person, had the right of way, and got hit) So I started on my Creative Binges and put all the old clothes and fabric to good use.

Even though I won't be participating too much in student organizations anymore, I valued half my winter break and my time for an event coming up on Valentine's Day <--(eww) called "Fashion and Recycling". It was an idea I pointed out for the Student Government's Environmental Committee and the chairwoman, the beeeee-yoooo-tiful Medina Baitemirova, agreed to it. She set the date, venue, and made flyers, and I took the student donations for old and unwanted clothes. During the break, these are what my Creative Binges are for, because I would look for inspiration and search for many ideas on teh intarwebz! So... let's get started with December recaps. (btw, they're not so much "recaps" because I never put these creations on the blog, but I guess we'll just keep on going with that..)**

December 5

My very first project with Fida's old clothes. I took a long black skirt, and 2 red shirts (one contour bust, one with lace).

It came out to be this little dress. (yeah, I'm not lying when I say "little"; it's tiny: shape-wise, and length.)

I then grabbed some fabric paint and scrambled arrows all over, to make it more vivid, crazy, and noticeable. Ahh, thanks Binary Grunge.. ^-^

And here's a matching choker!!

December 11

Fida had about 3 pairs of jeans that I found.. I only used one, and took out my Simplicity pattern..

The end result: This badass jean vest!! I'm looking to put more on it later, but for now.. This is as cool as it can be. I can sell this or make one from your old pair of jeans for $15.

For now, it's decked out in a tiny black ribbon bow and a black chain =D

I even like how there's deeper blue where the pockets used to be and it makes the vest more uninhibited ^^ There's already fraying at the bottom and the armholes, so the different blue patches and the one upside-down pocket makes it look like it came from a pair of jeans. Mi plan!!

There's my little helper that I won in August btw: Feliz. Why?? Because piggies make me sooo happy (for those who didn't know that).

December 22

I had only less than a week, and only about 40 bucks to spare for gas.. I went to Walmart earlier in the week to look for what to buy for my grandma, mom, and the demons.. I've already bought the elders something, but I remember my mom telling me that the girls would like anything I make, especially for them. These 3 shirts had been hanging on the old couch in my room for the longest and I had every intention to make them pillows, but never got around to it. So here it is, Christmastime, and I now had an idea of what to do.

I took their old shirts that they've given me months ago and made pillows, with the help of Douglas also giving me 2 bags of cotton stuffing with all the old fabric.

Hola, Feliz.... he only speaks Spanish)

This pillow was for my ex's niece Marlene who's like another little cousin or sister to me (like my demons... and she is Sanai's age)

December 27-28

This was another costume I made for a cosplay meet that I was misinformed and missed out on. I made a steampunk (and sort of burlesque) dress with Fida's old workout shirt. The bottom part of the dress was made from scratch and with 6 layers: 2 layers of black fabric, a folded layer of black tulle, a layer of sheer white, a layer of white pillowcase, and a folded white tulle.

Let's not forget the extra 2 layers of ruffles on the back, so altogether, that's a big poofy dress! But not in the "Mommy, I don't wanna wear this" kind of way.

December 29

This is one of the creative binge days I've done back to back projects taking me practically all day. This was a strange day because I woke up reeeeeally early and couldn't go back to sleep. Many ideas were flowing in my head and I had to get up and sew. I went in the Jeep (her name's Emerald ^^) and took some of the clothes from the donation box for Fashion and Recycling.

So here are some old pinstripe pants from Ericka Burns, who have donated some of her clothes for the Fashion and Recycling. I had alot leftover to make some matching accessories. I made them way later.

But, the end result: a pinstripe miniskirt with opposing panels and 3 layers of ruffles on the back.

Here are the ruffles up close -->

This was a sundress that belonged to Fida and I chopped off the frilly parts and made a pinafore for my friend Grace Allen. She's been wanting one forever ago and I just haven't gotten around to making one until after the holidays.

Remember my Musical Notes pinafore?? Well, she saw it, fell in love with it, and wanted one of any color I had. She sure as hell wasn't picky, so I wanted to make one really unique. The straps and the adjuster in the back are purple organdy ribbon.

Final project of the day was a high-waisted jersey skirt made of polypoplin fabric and strips of purple fabric with purple buttons and a purple organdy button bow on the back beneath the slit. Didn't take too long to make, AND I made my own pattern for the next time I would want to make another!!

Looking really spiffy, and I wore this to a New Year's party ^^ (just not with that pajama shirt...)

Thanks 2010 for a good start in Glam Rock Glory Days!

Recaps of Glam Rock Creations [October 2010]

October 10-16

The Introduction of:

Glam Rock's side baby... Binary Grunge is the stencilling and fabric painting of different phrases and pictures onto old, boring, and plain shirts, pants, shoes, backpacks, etc.!!!

(This binary code shirt I made is where the idea of the name popped into my head ^^)

"All your base are belong to us"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fV_KxVwZjU

These shoes are what I raved for in August and what I got for my birthday ^^ So Glam Rock & Binary took care of them.

Linda was Maid-sama for Oni-con on Halloween (which I wanted to go at first, buuuut heard it was at that same sucky place it was last year..)

This actually was my most challenging!!

October 23-28

I was Alice for Halloween!!!! (and it also seemed like 2010 was year of the Wonderland... =_=)

I already had this planned months in advance because of my newly blonde hair, and come October, every chick wanted to be Alice..... But bet I was the most creative looking one, ne??

I loved it!! Strangely, I even had a black and red hearts ball on my medusa!! Off with my head maybe, but never with my piercings!

But yes, it literally took me 3-5 sleepless nights to do because I started on it so late, very busy with school, and that was kinda the only free time I had. The corset almost made me call it quits (because it was the really fancy-looking, Simplicity pattern one, and I didn't have enough boning. But what do I do best? Improvise.) Yes, I wore it to school the Thursday before Halloween, and that week I only had 8 hours of sleep in total... v.v Very worth it, though.

I liked my low-cut back.. it was totally on accident.

<-- P.S.: This is my current fiance, Christian Cooper. He was my March Hare, and Halloween (my fave holiday) is his birthday! He doesn't like his fam taking piccies of him, but it's okay, he has plenty with me on my facebook.

Recaps of Glam Rock Creations [September 2010]

September 24

(I was reeeeeeeally busy this month, being back in school and all.. so, not so many creations..)

Remember these bad boys I altered from regular old jeans?? Well, I slashed them up!!! No use buying any over-priced cut-up jeans when you can DIYODS (do it your own damn self!)

Buuuut... if you're afraid to mess up your jeans, then it's cool. I can alter them and cut them (cause I'm one scissor-happy fool XD) altogether for $15.

(Yes, the back too)

This Pretty-in-Purple dress was made from a button down shirt and extra black fabric, pink, purple, and black houndstooth, and purple fabric. It's ruched contoured bust, and kinda off-shoulder, and with a purty little purple bow =]

This dress, or any custom dress like this is $30.

Enjoy!

It's Been a Loooong Time!

Welp, it's been a while since I've been here, and I'm sooo sorry folks.. Hope I didn't lose any of my buyers ^^ I have been busy going back to school for the fall, and different organizations, people, still trying to look for a job and money, and of course, making new stuff to sell for Glam Rock!

The summer didn't go so well, as far as business was concerned, but I'm going to make sure I get the materials and supplies I need for Glam Rock and make sure that business is running smoothly.. of course for now, I'm making new accessories and 3 costumes. Actually 2 costumes are just about finished, and one is in the making [or hasn't even been made yet..]

So, as an apology I'm posting what's to come for the fall! I do have a photo shoot coming up, solely for Glam Rock, and photography by my friend Clara Goodwin. I have a made a dress for my birthday [but didn't wear it out... oh! Did I mention my birthday was Oct. 3?? =D] And have made chokers and cuffs! On sale starting.... now! I will be Alice for Halloween, and I've had a plan for all my fellow companions [and fave characters] to dress as the March Hare, White Rabbit, and Mad Hatter ♥ I can shop around with my fellow three, and see any colorful suits, vests, and such, and I can try to make silly hats for both the Hatter and the Hare. Also, I will be making stencilized tees with the Glam Rock Glory Days logo or other crazy sayings and logos for sale.

All this coming up for fall and winter, and I'm soooooo glad I finally got my refunds from the school! So I'll do some minimal shopping, and hopefully the moolah will start rolling in! Look for the upcoming posts, and enjoy!

This One is Actually Not About Any Clothes...

http://newdressaday.wordpress.com/ <-- This lady is my newfound idol now!!!

A week ago, I was browsing the web (and waiting for my damn laptop to work!!), and trying to go to my email, until I happen to see this lady on featured Yahoo news... The night before I just so happened to be looking up different design ideas for more t-shirt recons, because I needed some inspiration. So I was surprised that Yahoo featured her under recycling, upcycling, and going green, and what did I do? What else.. When I saw her touching story on the Yahoo news, they had her wordpress link on there. I clicked that. I am pretty amazed by the story and what I saw. She's awesome. Here's how it is: She lost her job in Sep 09 I think, and she hasn't been able to do the thing she loves best, but since she lost her job, it was like a comeback for her and the sewing machine. Around November 09 was her very first post and dress recon. Her goal is to take 365 fuggly dresses and transform them into hip and styling ones (here's the awesome part) with a budget of $365, meaning a dollar a dress a day!! She really inspired me to do something like that, but with school starting in less than a week for me, I may not have time to recon a shirt EVERYday for 365 days.. I would love to, and find a really good thrift store to buy awesome-sauce graphic shirts for $1 each, but with school (and still trying to find a job) in the way soon, I just can't do it. Mannnnn how I wish to do what I like everyday and transform 365 shirts to my liking and sell them and give the proceeds to charity like her! Marisa is the shizz, hands down!! So yes, be sure to clicky on her blog, and I'll be sure to give her a ring-a-ding-ding sometime soon... (I mean, email.. or something)

In other news: I'M A BLONDE NOW!! but still half-redhead =D

Yeah, my fabulous hair-stylist mother did my hair in blonde and auburn braids, and I never thought I'd be so used to being blonde so quickly, but I am ^^ And I'm loving it like McDonalds, bah dah ba ba baaaaah!

*Teehee, piggy bank! Get it?*

Sooner than later, I hope, I'll be getting moolah from my school. Financial aid refunds, here I come. So hopefully I can go thrift-shopping for some cool shirts, and other things. I'm not really gonna use the money to buy some supplies that Glam Rock needs until I get a job. My best friend's mother has given me and update on a weekend job though, and that's good with my busy school schedule. FIVE classes, 15 hours. (math for liberal arts --that should be interesting-- creative writing, foundation drawing, economics, and psychology --that too!--) I start with 3 of the 5 next Monday, then after Sept. 27, I'll be taking the last 2, in total: 5 classes =] Yeah, talk about uber busy.. so if I go on anymore unspoken hiatuses again, then you'll really know what's up. If I get this weekend job, I'll have a 9-5 every Sat and Sunday, and my ONLY off-day where I can possibly pay some attention to Glam Rock with no interruptions is on Friday, since I have no classes on Fridays.

So yeah, things on my list to buy with the refunds after taking care of paying for classes & books is:
  1. New laptop..... This Toshiba is a dinosaur, had it since 07, and I just found out weeks ago that when my mom bought this thing, she got ripped off!! This thing is supposed to have 1 gig of memory, but it has half... and that's the whole reason why my laptop doesn't work as well as it should.... oopsie, I'm getting mad.. moving on...
  2. CAR!! Hopefully I will get the job once school starts so I can pay for gas and maintenance instead of tapping into my refunds.
  3. iPod car stereo for said car. Yes, I HAVE to jam my otherworldly music loud down these ghetto streets and having idiot people look at me like "What the hell is she listening to??" XD
  4. Clothes, last but not least. I'm not a shopaholic, but I think I do need to shop for some clothes so I can recon them, ya know. Aaaaaaand I'm not a shoe freak either, but there are these pair of converse boots (ya know, the reeeeeally high-top ones) I've been wanting forever, and once I get the money I can buy them and stitch patches of scrap fabric onto them so they can look trippy. Thing is too, I'm such a guy when it comes to shoes, because I'll know I'll need a new pair once the sole is falling off my foot. I love raggedy shoes actually, means you broke them in quite well. So yeah, that's the only pair I want.

Since I've been away from the blog for a while and trying to catch up on my summer and what life I've been missing with my good friends (notice I used "good") I've actually stayed at home on some days and made some more recons. I've done 3 t-shirt recons, (plan to do a whole lot more) some cuffs, and chokers. Even chokers that can be made into "clip-on" bowties for the men. You'll see what I mean in the next blog post for sure! I also plan before starting school to make a few more derbie/fedora-looking hats and some pillows for my little cousins (remember the 2 adorable demons in the pillowcase dresses?). So this week, I'll be busy getting things together, attending birthday parties and/or visiting birthday people, waiting for my refunds, trying not to stay up all night and get my sleep cycle back in order (like what I should be doing now!), hopefully shopping this weekend, try to start back keeping a journal (preferably online now ^^) and writing my feelings out since I've been a rampaging maniac kept in the confines on my dark garage-looking room by not writing, draw some more comics, and sewing sewing sewing! Hopefully I can talk to my new idol soon and we'll conjure up some business...... even though she's in California.. Hey, it's still possible.

So yes, I was in a writing mood tonight, and now I think I'll set up a wordpress like Marisa and my friend Britknee and just do my journal entries there. I'll still handwrite from time to time.... Gahh this was a long blog, hope I didn't lose you guys' attention, but I wanted to do something a little different this time with Glam Rock Glory Days. I will indeed post my recons and accessories next time folks!! You guys know where to reach me ;] ♥

The Newest Addition to Glam Rock: HATS!!

Hats were totally 80's, especially hats like these!

I've put it in my mind to start creating more accessories for Glam Rock Glory Days, and I knew that I could make hats, but just only beenies and things of that nature. So I wanted to create something a little harder than what I can be able to do, and I did a little trial-and-error, then came up with this amazing hat!

It's styled like the fedoras or derbies, but it's made with my own twist. This hat is pretty 80's-inspired indeed, and of course, the first thing I did was advertise it my new hat to the world! Before I could even make this blog, I've been having many of my friends and family request for me to make them a genuine handmade hat by yours truly, and whaddya know! The blog is up, and these hats are on sale! Only $12, so if you want this hat in different fabric (because I don't have anymore of this plaid/checkered), you know what to do ;]

I even make regular biker caps -- with or without the bow ♥ Also $12. Come get them, and you know what to do!!
