Recaps of Glam Rock Creations [December 2010]

**In November, I was busy trying to get everything taken care of as far as my car accident (the death of my '91 Jeep Cherokee I've only had for 3 weeks) I've gotten into on the 6th and searching for a new car, at the same time looking for employment, and trying to focus on school.

I did eventually get a '94 Jeep Cherokee on the 18th and have been very busy with other things. A week after getting her, I picked up 3 full bags of vintage fabric from dear old Bayou City Art Festival volunteer buddy Douglas Brookover, then 3 bags of old unwanted clothes from HCC friend Fida Moukaddam. I've been sorting everything out, what I wanted to keep and wanted to give away because I found NO use for it, and have been preparing for end of my participation in school organizations and finals. Some of my studies were a bit hard to catch up on, but I luckily got around and caught up.

I looked at Adalia after getting all those bags and felt so sorry for her because I wasn't using her since my Alice in Wonderland costume... November was wayyyy too hectic for me, but I got rid of the biggest worry in December (court for the accident because I had to appear for an "unsafe turn", even though I didn't see the person, had the right of way, and got hit) So I started on my Creative Binges and put all the old clothes and fabric to good use.

Even though I won't be participating too much in student organizations anymore, I valued half my winter break and my time for an event coming up on Valentine's Day <--(eww) called "Fashion and Recycling". It was an idea I pointed out for the Student Government's Environmental Committee and the chairwoman, the beeeee-yoooo-tiful Medina Baitemirova, agreed to it. She set the date, venue, and made flyers, and I took the student donations for old and unwanted clothes. During the break, these are what my Creative Binges are for, because I would look for inspiration and search for many ideas on teh intarwebz! So... let's get started with December recaps. (btw, they're not so much "recaps" because I never put these creations on the blog, but I guess we'll just keep on going with that..)**

December 5

My very first project with Fida's old clothes. I took a long black skirt, and 2 red shirts (one contour bust, one with lace).

It came out to be this little dress. (yeah, I'm not lying when I say "little"; it's tiny: shape-wise, and length.)

I then grabbed some fabric paint and scrambled arrows all over, to make it more vivid, crazy, and noticeable. Ahh, thanks Binary Grunge.. ^-^

And here's a matching choker!!

December 11

Fida had about 3 pairs of jeans that I found.. I only used one, and took out my Simplicity pattern..

The end result: This badass jean vest!! I'm looking to put more on it later, but for now.. This is as cool as it can be. I can sell this or make one from your old pair of jeans for $15.

For now, it's decked out in a tiny black ribbon bow and a black chain =D

I even like how there's deeper blue where the pockets used to be and it makes the vest more uninhibited ^^ There's already fraying at the bottom and the armholes, so the different blue patches and the one upside-down pocket makes it look like it came from a pair of jeans. Mi plan!!

There's my little helper that I won in August btw: Feliz. Why?? Because piggies make me sooo happy (for those who didn't know that).

December 22

I had only less than a week, and only about 40 bucks to spare for gas.. I went to Walmart earlier in the week to look for what to buy for my grandma, mom, and the demons.. I've already bought the elders something, but I remember my mom telling me that the girls would like anything I make, especially for them. These 3 shirts had been hanging on the old couch in my room for the longest and I had every intention to make them pillows, but never got around to it. So here it is, Christmastime, and I now had an idea of what to do.

I took their old shirts that they've given me months ago and made pillows, with the help of Douglas also giving me 2 bags of cotton stuffing with all the old fabric.

Hola, Feliz.... he only speaks Spanish)

This pillow was for my ex's niece Marlene who's like another little cousin or sister to me (like my demons... and she is Sanai's age)

December 27-28

This was another costume I made for a cosplay meet that I was misinformed and missed out on. I made a steampunk (and sort of burlesque) dress with Fida's old workout shirt. The bottom part of the dress was made from scratch and with 6 layers: 2 layers of black fabric, a folded layer of black tulle, a layer of sheer white, a layer of white pillowcase, and a folded white tulle.

Let's not forget the extra 2 layers of ruffles on the back, so altogether, that's a big poofy dress! But not in the "Mommy, I don't wanna wear this" kind of way.

December 29

This is one of the creative binge days I've done back to back projects taking me practically all day. This was a strange day because I woke up reeeeeally early and couldn't go back to sleep. Many ideas were flowing in my head and I had to get up and sew. I went in the Jeep (her name's Emerald ^^) and took some of the clothes from the donation box for Fashion and Recycling.

So here are some old pinstripe pants from Ericka Burns, who have donated some of her clothes for the Fashion and Recycling. I had alot leftover to make some matching accessories. I made them way later.

But, the end result: a pinstripe miniskirt with opposing panels and 3 layers of ruffles on the back.

Here are the ruffles up close -->

This was a sundress that belonged to Fida and I chopped off the frilly parts and made a pinafore for my friend Grace Allen. She's been wanting one forever ago and I just haven't gotten around to making one until after the holidays.

Remember my Musical Notes pinafore?? Well, she saw it, fell in love with it, and wanted one of any color I had. She sure as hell wasn't picky, so I wanted to make one really unique. The straps and the adjuster in the back are purple organdy ribbon.

Final project of the day was a high-waisted jersey skirt made of polypoplin fabric and strips of purple fabric with purple buttons and a purple organdy button bow on the back beneath the slit. Didn't take too long to make, AND I made my own pattern for the next time I would want to make another!!

Looking really spiffy, and I wore this to a New Year's party ^^ (just not with that pajama shirt...)

Thanks 2010 for a good start in Glam Rock Glory Days!
